Sweep ends Lyndon's playoff hopes

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Lyndon's chances of gaining a berth in the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference Eastern Division playoffs ended with a doubleheader loss to Castleton at Skip Pound Field. The Spartans swept the twin bill by scores of 5-4 and 8-3.

In the opener, Zak Mayo and Shawn Kennedy pounded out two hits each, and Jack Lancelin drove home a pair of runs, as Castleton rallied from a 4-2 deficit. Patrick Riley got credit for the win in relief of Tim Smith and Dakaota Aker went two innings to get the save.

Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, Vt.) had two hits in the loss for the Hornets while Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.), who took the loss in releief of Shane Fleury (Plainfield, Vt.) collected two runs-batted-in in the contest.

In the nightcap, Joe Borowski had three hits - including a pair of doubles - and three RBIs to lead the Spartans to a sweep of the doubleheader and the season series. Matt Eisenhuth drove in two runs in support of starter Billy Kosachook, who went five innings to get the win.

Kyle Whitworth (Brattleboro, Vt.) had two hits in the loss for Lyndon while O'Donnell-Leach and Korey Marsh (Essex, Vt.) chipped in one each. Jeremy Schichtle (Ryegate, Vt.) suffered the loss.
