LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Colby-Sawyer improved to 10-12 overall, and 4-6 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Eastern Division, with a doubleheader sweep of Lyndon at Skip Pound Field.
In the opener, the Chargers scored at least one run in the first four innings to coast to a 7-0 victory. Justin Martin led the way with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate while teammates Sean Gavin and Tyler Stotz chipped in two each.
Andy Lapple had a two-run double in support of Brendan Harding, who went the distance to get the win. The right-hander tossed a two-hitter while striking out six and walking three.
Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.) was tagged with the loss after going four full innings. He allowed four earned runs on six hits while fanning three and walking five. Sam Matthews (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, Vt.) had one hit each for Lyndon.
In the nightcap, the Hornets grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a run-scoring single by Nick Gale (San Diego, Calif.). Tyler Pelletier (St. Albans, Vt.) got aboard with a one-out single and moved into scoring position on a single by Trucott. Gale followed with a single up the middle to give Lyndon its first lead of the day.
However, the lead proved to be short-lived as the Chargers plated one run in the top of the fifth during a rundown situation and another in the seventh on Lapple's RBI single – the only hit of the contest for Colby-Sawyer - to steal the win.
Jordie Scheiner went six innings to get the win allowing one unearned run on six hits while striking out two and walking one. Greg Doucette came on in the seventh to face four batters and earn his first save of the season. He fanned one batter in his one inning of work.
Despite his stellar performance Hornet starter Billy Johnson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing only one earned run while striking out one and walking one. Pelletier had two hits for Lyndon (2-14, 1-9) in the contest.
