LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 10-9 victory over Plymouth State in the nightcap of a doubleheader played at Skip Pound Field.
The Hornets trailed 9-7 entering the inning, but singles by Shayne Kirby (Fairfax, Vt.), James Neal (Vienna, Maine) and Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.) set the table for the winning rally. Kirby scampered home on a run-scoring ground out by Cody Gage (Newport, Vt.) while the tying and winning runs came home a few pitches later on a Panther error.
Neal got the win in relief and Spencer Webb took the loss. Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) and Jeremy Rocheleau (Cambridge, Vt.) had two hits for Lyndon (4-20) while Luke Merrill and Justin Campo pounded out three hits each for Plymouth State (11-15).
In Game 1, Merrill, Campo, Steve Beard and Tucker Regan had three hits each to lead the Panthers to an 11-2 rout. Regan and Merrill had two doubles each and Mike Cappiello swatted a triple.
Rew Wilson went four and two-thirds innings to get the win. He allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Tyler Pelletier (St. Albans, Vt.) had two hits for Lyndon and Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, Vt.) had a double. O'Donnell-Leach took the loss allowing four earned runs on nine hits while fanning two and walking none in four and one-thirds innings of work.
