LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Devon Rollins (Winnoski, Vt.) went 8-for-9 on the day as Lyndon split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with New England College. The Hornets took the opener 9-3 and the Pilgrims rallied from three runs down in their final at bat to take the nightcap by a score of 8-5.
In Game 1, Rollins collected four hits, including a double, to propel Lynodn to victory. R.T. Trucott (Sheffield, Vt.) and Michael Cartularo (North Smithfield, R.I.) chipped in two hits each to the Hornets' 14-hit attack and Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) added a pair of safeties including a two-run home run to deep left field in the fourth.
Sam Matthews (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) went six and one-third innings to get the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Brandon Adorno had two hits, including a double, for New England (5-20, 4-16) and Chris Wallace took the loss. He allowed five earned runs on 10 hits while fanning six and walking four.
In Game 2, Rollins continued his torrid hitting with a 4-for-4 performance and four runs-batted-in. However, it wasn't enough to prevent the Pilgrims from rallying to victory. RBI singles by Scott Fortune and Conor Crouse, as well as a two-run double off the bat of Adorno, erased a three-run deficit and sent NEC on the win.
Adorno had two doubles in the contest while Kevin Caputo and Matthew Krum added two hits each. Eric Johnson got the win in relief, throwing one and one-third innings of one-hit ball.
Ian Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.) had two hits for the Hornets (3-27, 3-17) and Mason Brewer (Wiscasset, Maine) was tagged with the loss. He allowed two earned runs on three hits in one-third of an inning.
