Lyndon to compete in 2010 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Lyndon will make basketball history on Monday, Nov. 22 when it becomes one of the first two NCAA Division III teams to compete in the annual Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off. The event will take place Nov. 20-22 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
Twelve schools across all three NCAA basketball Divisions will compete in three days of competitive action that culminates with the Texas Christian University-University of Massachusetts matchup at 8 p.m. on Nov. 22.
Lyndon will take the floor at 4 p.m. that day to face Springfield College and that contest will be followed by a Division II contest between American International and LeMoyne Colleges.
"Our team is excited about it and it's a good step forward toward what we're trying to build as a program," said Lyndon Head Coach Joe Krupinski, who began his coaching career at Springfield in 1997. "To have the opportunity to play in such a prestigious event, in the birthplace of basketball, against a really good team is great. We've been trying to make recruiting in-roads in the Springfield area for a few years now and getting this opportunity to play in this event certain will help."
The game schedule includes four games on Saturday, Nov. 20, followed by three games on Sunday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 22. The field of teams participating include: Bradley University, Dowling College, Loyola Marymount University, New Mexico State University, University of Massachusetts, Rider University, University of Southern California and Texas Christian University.
In addition to the games at the MassMutual Center, Bradley University, New Mexico State University, University of Massachusetts, University of Southern California and TCU will each host campus site games as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will serve as the host conference for the event.
