LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Two Lyndon student-athletes have been named Rookie of the Week in the North Atlantic Conference for their performances in the week ending Sunday, Feb. 6.
Ariel McConkey, a freshman guard on the Lyndon women's basketball team, averaged 14.3 points, and four steals per contest as the Hornets ran their NAC record to 5-4 and 9-9 overall.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, the Freyburg, Maine native had 15 points, three rebounds, six steals and two assists in the Hornets' 80-56 win over Green Mountain. Three days later, she collected 15 points, three rebounds and two steals as Lyndon stunned Maine Maritime Academy 80-68.
McConkey closed out the week on Saturday with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and four steals in the Hornet's 100-78 loss to Husson.
On the men's side, Antonio Mena, a freshman forward from Central Falls, R.I., averaged 8.0 points and 11.6 rebounds with five assists and three steals as Lyndon ran its NAC record to 7-2 and 8-12 overall.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, he had five points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in the Hornets' 95-62 win over Green Mountain. Against Maine Maritime Academy on Friday, Mena recorded a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds, to go along with two assists and two steals, as Lyndon earned a hard-fought 73-63 victory.
He closed out the week on Saturday with four points, 13 rebounds and one assist in the Hornet's shocking 86-84 win over Husson, who came into the contest unbeaten in NAC play.
