LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon secured its first-ever North Atlantic Conference playoff berth by topping Castleton 92-55 at Stannard Gymnasium. With the victory, Lyndon ends it regular season with an overall record of 11-14 and a mark of 10-4 in the NAC.
The win also gives the Hornets sole possession of second place in the conference and a bye in the first round of the NAC playoffs, which get underway on Tuesday. Lyndon will remain idle until Friday, Feb. 25 when it takes part in the tournament semifinals at Husson University in Bangor, Maine.
Phil Warrick (Springfield, Mass.) and Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) tossed in 16 points each to lead the Hornets while Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.) and Rob Alers (Central falls, R.I.) chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Logan Calkins (Danville, Vt.) grabbed seven rebounds for Lyndon, Jose Fortunato (Boston, Mass.) dished out six assists and Antonio Mena (Central Falls, R.I.) collected three steals.
Jared Paul had 14 points for the Spartans, who fell to 14-11 overall and 9-5 in the NAC. Kyle Bennett came off the bench to grab a team-high six rebounds while Tyler Ackley and Greg Hughes handed out three assists apiece.
