LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Asa Smith's runner with 3:10 remaining erased a late seven-point deficit and lifted Lyndon to a 71-63 win over Johnson State at Stannard Gymnasium.
Lyndon trailed 63-56 with 5:24 left to play before the Hornet defense shut down the Badgers and held them scoreless the remainder of the game.
Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.), who was held scoreless in the first half, erupted for 23 second-half points – including 15 from beyond the three-point arc - to lead Lyndon, who improved to 4-15 overall and 4-9 in the North Atlantic Conference
Devyn Baranauskas (Waterbury, Conn.) added 15 points, three assists and two steals for the Hornets and Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) collected 14 points, 12 rebounds, one blocked shot and one steal. Smith (Cheltenham, Md.) finished with nine points, five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal.
Alen Turan and Bryan Hickey had 16 points each for Johnson (4-15, 4-9) and Billy Boyd had 10 points to go with five rebounds. Andy Bousono had 10 assists and one steal in the game.
