Lyndon falls in season opener

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Alex Berthiaume led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points as Springfield defeated Lyndon 87-60 in the Hornets home opener at Stannard Gymnasium.

The Pride jumped out to a 44-25 lead at intermission and coasted to their third victory of the season against no losses.

Jordan Rote chipped in 15 points and two steals for Springfield while Josh Downes and Sean Martin added 10 points and five assists, respectively. Nick Toto came off the bench late in the contest to grab a team-high seven rebounds and George Adams blocked two shots.

Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) led Lyndon (0-1) with an 11-point, eight-rebound effort and Tyler Morrison (Chichester, N.H.) tossed in a career-high 10 points off the bench. Daquan Vaughan Farmville, Va.) had nine points and three steals in the loss and teammate Devyn Baranauskas (Waterbury, Conn.) dished out five assists.
