POULTNEY, Vt. – Lyndon State College used a strong second-half performance to pick up an important North Atlantic Conference road victory over Green mountain College by a score of 78-73.
After trading baskets early on in the first half, the Eagles would jump out to a nine-point lead behind Cassius Belfon's 13 points. Despite Belfon's performance, the Hornets were able to cut the lead to just two before the half and trail 37-35 at intermission.
In the second half, Lyndon picked up its defensive pressure using a full court press to force Green Mountain to turn the ball over 10 times. Using the extra possessions, the Hornets would find their way to the free throw line 17 times - converting 14 of their attempts - to give the team a total of 22 points from the charity stripe.
Lyndon (7-7, 6-3) was led by Devyn Baranauskas (Waterbury, Conn.) who had 25 points going 11-of-12 from the free throw line. George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) finished the night with 17 points and Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) notched a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
