Lyndonville, VT - Phillip Lafond, a 5'9" guard from Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in South Easton, MA, has committed to the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball program for the Fall 2018 semester. Lafond will major in Exercise Science.
Lafond helped Southeastern to a 15-7 overall record and a berth in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 State Tournament. He averaged 10.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Hawks.
Hornet head coach David Pasiak commented "Phillip will add to our depth in the backcourt. He is a very good perimeter shooter, and has made some great strides in his overall game. Most importantly, he's a very high quality young man who will make a positive contribution to the foundation that we are establishing at Lyndon."
Lafond's high school coach, Khari Rhoulac, had this to say about Lafond: "The strength of Phil's game is his shooting for sure. He has been working all season at improving his defense. His dribble penetration and decision making with the ball has improved as the year went on, although he still has a lot of room to grow. More than all of that, Phil is a person of great character."
Lafond joins Zach Falkenburg of Chittnango, NY, Luke Fredsell of Westmoreland, NY, Colby Bucknam of Brunswick, ME, and Dylan Torello of Fort Pierce, FL, in the Hornets' Fall 2018 recruiting class. The Hornets expect to announce additional commitments in the near future.
