POULTNEY, Vt. – Buoyed by a seven-goal first half, Lyndon was able to keep Green Mountain at bay in the second half en route to a 12-4 victory in North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action.
Nearly half the first quarter eclipsed before the game saw its first goal. Max Ercole (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) broke the scoreless draught with a marker at 10:14 of the first quarter with his first goal of the year. Immediately following the ensuing face-off, the Hornets struck again within seconds to take a 2-0 lead courtesy of Anthony Amoroso's (Jamestown, N.Y.) goal.
GMC would get one back on Charlie Petrick's goal at the 8:04 mark of the first. However, Lyndon would build its lead to 4-1 by the end of the period with two more goals.
The Eagles would narrow the deficit to 4-2 when Chris Milholland scored in a man-up situation on a feed from Oliver Osnoss. Four unanswered Hornets goals, however, would push the visitors' lead to 8-2 as play continued in the third quarter.
Milholland's second goal of the game, again from Osnoss, and Toliver DiMasi's (Winooski, VT) marker with 5:16 remaining in the third would be the end of the offensive output for the Eagles on the day as GMC would trail at that point 9-4.
The Hornets would add one in the third and two more goals in fourth quarter to close out the 12-4 win. Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) turned aside eight shots in the game to earn the victory, while Luke Carey saved 13 shots in the loss.
