LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Castleton scored on five of if first six shots Wednesday en route to a 12-2 North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse victory over Lyndon.
The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play when Evan Tucker scored off a pass from A.J. Groot from behind the net. Less than seven minutes later the duo hooked up again to push the Castleton advantage to 2-0.
A goal by Paul Saulsbury with 4:31 left to play in the opening quarter and a man-up tally by Nohea King 24 seconds later extended the Spartan lead to four and sent the Hornets reeling.
Colin Murray's goal at 3:28 closed out the first quarter, giving the Spartans a comfortable five-goal advantage. Jake Krantz's goal at the 10-inute mark of the second quarter was the lone goal of the period and gave Castleton a 6-0 at intermission.
In the third quarter, Krantz, Kenneth Bourneuf and Cam Ormiston pushed the Spartan lead to 9-0 before goals by Tucker, Groot and Ormiston sealed the win.
Dan Randall (Delmar, N.Y.) scored Lyndon's first goal of the game with 2:36 left to play and teammate Ryan Brown (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) netted and unassisted tally in the final minute of play to end the scoring in the contest.
Castleton's Eric Horsfield stopped eight shots to get the victory and Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) turned aside 10 shots in the loss.
