LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon closed out its regular season schedule Wednesday with a 16-6 loss to Norwich University. The Hornets end the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 3-8.
Lyndon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute of play on goals by Robert Crupi (Scituate, Mass.) and Dan Randall (Delmar, N.Y.), but the Cadets responded with four unanswered goals to take the lead for good.
Victor Bill cut the Hornet lead to 2-1 at 12:27 and Ian Mendoza scored the first of two consecutive goals 16 second later to erase the deficit. After Mendoza gave Norwich its first lead at the 7:37 mark, C.J. Dolan tallied a goal to up the lead to two.
Lyndon's Max Ercole (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Ryan Brown (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally by the Cadets' Zachary MacMillian to close out the scoring in the first quarter, but a five-goal barrage by Norwich in the second quarter decided the issue.
MacMillian and Mendoza had three goals each for the Cadets while Nick Godau and Ian Thomas had two each. Bill, Dolan, Andrew Dustin, Arron Canarelli, Conor Murphy and William Flanagan had one goal for the winners and the tandem of Dustin and Godau were credited with two assists in the contest.
Brown and Ercole had two goals each for the Hornets; and Randall and Crupi added one. Tim Patten (Springfield, N.H.) had two assists for Lyndon and Chris Paine (Lewsiton, Maine) earned another.
Norwich goaltender Ryan Fecteau was credited with the victory, stopping six shots along the way, and Lyndon's Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) made 18 saves in the game.
