Lyndon nips Husson in NAC opener

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Patrice Lumumba's (Burlington, Vt.) goal at 55:04 was the difference as Lyndon slipped by Husson University in the North Atlantic Conference opener for both programs.

After an even-played first half, the Hornets pushed the ball deep into the Eagles' end of the field where Lyndon striker Andrew O'Brien (Ware, Mass.) was brought down by a Husson defender just outside the penalty area.

On the ensuing direct kick, O'Brien lofted the ball into the middle of the field where Lumumba headed it past Eagles' goalkeeper Mason Smith for the lone goal of the game. Husson poured on the pressure late in the game, but Lyndon goalie Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) proved to be equal to the task.

Gray made four saves to earn his third shutout of the season while Smith registered a total of eight saves in the contest. Lyndon outshot Husson by a margin of 17-8.
