Thomas tops Lyndon in NAC title game

WATERVILLE , Maine - The Thomas College Terriers defeated Lyndon 3-1 in the North Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship. The title is the first for Thomas since joining the NAC in 2002. Tournament Most Valuable Player Michael Hand scored two goals in the victory.

The Hornets struck early, scoring in the first 46 seconds of the game when Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) put in a header off an Emmitt Simpson (Barton, Vt.) free kick. The Terriers were able to tie the game in the 23rd minute when Hand scored his first goal of the game off a Kennen Hoedemaker assist. At the half the scoreboard read 1-1.

Hand scored his second goal, and the eventual game-winner, in the 49th minute off of a Harley Colman assist, giving the Terriers the 2-1 lead. Thomas closed out the scoring in the match when Dylan Keller scored off Hodemaker's second assist in the 71st minute.

Both goal keepers played a brilliant game on their way to making the all tournament team. Lyndon's Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) made nine saves and Thomas goalie Mikkail Crockwell made six saves in the victory.
