Early goal lifts SUNY Canton over Lyndon

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Abdulai Jagana's goal at 4:07 of the first half proved to be the game-winner as the State University of New York at Canton men's soccer team defeated Lyndon 1-0 in a non-conference match.

With the victory the Kangaroos improve to 4-6-1 on the season overall while the Hornets drop to 3-9.

Canton came out strong and managed to score the lone goal of the contest on a mistake by the Lyndon defense. Jagana split two Hornet defenders on the play and sent a hard shot straight at Lyndon goalkeeper Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.).

Gray made the initial save and appeared to be in control of the ball, but a collision with teammate Youl Herjok (Burlington, Vt.) jarred the ball loose allowing Jagana to pounce on the free ball and punch it into the back of the net.

From there, Kangaroos goalie William Banahene made the lead stand, making five saves in the contest to earn the shutout. Gray stopped 11 shots in the loss as Canton outshot Lyndon by a margin of 22-15. The Hornets had seven corner kicks in the game to the Kangaroos two.
