Lyndon men, women earn playoff berths

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Lyndon men's and women's soccer programs have earned berths in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference playoffs, which get underway this weekend.

In men's soccer, Thomas College put the finishing touches on an unbeaten conference season Tuesday evening and has earned the top seed.

The Terriers dispatched of the University of Maine at Farmington on the final day of the regular season, securing the number-one seed and earning the right to host eighth-seeded Green Mountain College on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Defending champion Husson finished second in the regular season standings and will host Lyndon on Saturday.

New England College earned the third seed and will host number-six Colby-Sawyer while fourth-seeded Maine Maritime will entertain the fifth seed, Castleton to round out Saturday's quarterfinal match-ups.

The top eight teams qualify for the NAC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.

Quarterfinal round games will be played on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the semifinal round held at the higher seed on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Semifinal winners will meet Saturday, Nov. 3 at the highest remaining seed.

On the women's side, Colby-Sawyer College finished the regular season unbeaten in NAC play, and secured the first. The Chargers defeated two-time defending champion Castleton on the final day of the regular season to secure the top spot, and will host eighth-seeded Lyndon on Sunday, Oct. 28.

The loss to Colby-Sawyer was the first for the Spartans against a conference opponent since the 2009 NAC title game, a span of 29 games. The second-seeded Spartans will host number-seven Johnson State on Sunday.

Husson grabbed the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Maine Maritime, while fourth seed University of Maine at Farmington will host New England College in the final quarterfinal round match ups Sunday.
