RUTLAND, Vt. - The Castleton State College men's tennis team opened its season with an 9-0 win over Lyndon at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.
Justin Garritt defeated Lyndon's Michael Howard (Rocky Hill, Conn.) in top-flight singles match, winning 6-2, 6-2 to lead the Spartans. Castleton cruised to the next five singles wins, dropping just 13 games along the way. Kevin Eisenberg, Calvin Henry, Willie Levine, Greg Klopfer and Adam McCaffrey all posted wins for Castleton in number two through five.
Garritt and Eisenberg teamed in first-flight doubles for Castleton's first win of the afternoon, a hard-fought 9-8 (7-3) victory over HOawrd and Tyler Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.). Henry and Klopfer teamed to win second-flight doubles, while Levine and McCaffrey won third-flight.
