RUTLAND, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team was bested by Green Mountain College Sunday morning 7-2 in a non-conference match at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.

Eagles Connor Braden and Truman Cressey led off the match with an 8-3 victory over Trevor Updike and Jake LaCerda in top-flight doubles action.

The Hornets evened the match with a win in number two doubles as Dominick Agresta and Michael Sigsbury upended Grey McCampbell and Andrew Woodman, 8-4.

Eric Wade and Jack Tiernan of Green Mountain took the final doubles match 8-5 over Kyle Berteau and Derek Kalnicki.

Braden started off the season 3-0 after ousting Trevor Updike in straight sets with a pair of 6-1 wins in top-flight singles. Cressey took his first number two singles set with a 6-2 margin of victory and then had to battle in the second set to edge past Sigsbury 7-6 (7-5). McCampbell posted a pair of 6-3 set wins to top Agresta in third flight singles.

Jake LaCerda grabbed a win for the Hornets in fourth flight singles as he and Woodman battled back and forth through their three set match. Both players traded wins in the first two sets with a pair of 6-2 scores, but LaCerda held serve throughout the final set and broke Woodman's serve each time to post a 6-0 third set win.

Wade earned a straight-sets victory over Kyle Berteau 6-3, 6-1 in fifth flight singles while Tiernan had to endure a three-set marathon and a pro set final to earn a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 victory over Kalnicki in the sixth flight.

The Hornets (0-2) travel to Johnson on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start time.

Green Mountain (2-1) will return to the court on Thursday as it travels to face MCLA in a match scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
