LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team finished off the 2016 season with a 5-4 victory over Green Mountain College Sunday afternoon at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center. Celebrating Senior Day, the Hornets recognized seniors Trevor Updike and Dominick Agresta for their commitment and contribution to the men's tennis program.
The Hornets started off the day taking two-of-three in doubles matches. Dominick Agresta and Michael Sigsbury teamed up for an 8-2 win over Andrew Woodman and Eric Wade in the second flight while Derek Kalnicki and Ben Park topped Alex Reedy and Erin McAuliffe 8-0 in the third flight. The Eagles picked up the win in the first flight as Connor Braden and Truman Cressey took an 8-3 win over Trevor Updike and Jake LaCerda.
The Eagles snagged the first three singles matches but the Hornets bounced back to take the final three flights, and the match. Braden defeated Updike in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Cressey came out on top after a battle with Sigsbury at the No. 2 spot, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-6. Another close matchup was decided 7-5, 7-5 in No. 3 singles as Woodman topped Agresta for GMC's final win.
LaCerda snagged No. 4 singles for the Hornets, 6-1, 6-1 over Wade. Kalnicki finished 6-3, 6-0 over Reedy while Park took the final flight 6-0, 6-1 over McAuliffe to take the match for Lyndon.
The Hornets finish the season 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the NAC.
The Eagles finish the season 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the NAC.
