LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team celebrated a 6-3 victory over Johnson State College on Senior Day to close out the 2017 season at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
Before the match head coach Laura Laramee recognized seniors Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) and Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.), and Dylan Cherko (Manchester, Conn.) for their contributions to the tennis program
The Hornets started off the match taking all three doubles matches for the 3-0 lead. Tyler Hall and Jake LaCerda (Gray, Maine) grabbed the top flight 8-5 over Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) 8-5. Michael Sigsbury and Dylan Cherko topped Alex Harcourt (Colton, N.Y.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Penn.) 8-2 in the second flight while Ken Niemann (Au Sable Forks, N.Y.) and Neal Mulligan (Marshfield, Vt.) eased to a 8-1 victory over Matthew Fogg (Morrisville, Vt.) and Ethan Hutchinson (Canterbury, N.H.) 8-1 in the third flight.
Lane outlasted Hall 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 for a Badgers victory in No. 1 singles. The Hornets picked up wins in No. 2 and No. 3 singles as LaCerda downed Harcourt 6-0, 6-4 and Sigsbury cruised past Perez 6-0, 6-2.
The Badgers snagged No. 4 and No. 6 singles with Holl topping Cherko 6-2, 6-1 and Quinn Lambert (Joppatowne, Md.) winning a close match over Bradley Shumway (Bloomingdale, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-4.
Mulligan rounded out the match for the Hornets with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fogg.
The Hornets finish out the year 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Badgers end the season 1-13 overall and 0-6 in the NAC.
