Three Lyndon student-athletes recieve NAC weekly honors
LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Three Lyndon student-athletes were honored Tuesday for their performances in the week ending Sunday, Sept. 26.
Joshua Grant of the Lyndon men's cross country team, was named the NAC Runner of the Week by pacing the Hornets to the team title at the Southern Vermont College Invitational on Saturday.
Grant, a sophomore from Nashua, N.H., took the individual title in a time of 30:30 over a hilly 5.1 mile-course as Lyndon won its second-consecutive SVC Invitational title.
In soccer, Jason Gray, the goalkeeper for Lyndon men's program, collected three victories in the week - two via the shutout route - as the Hornets upped their overall record to 7-1-1 and 2-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. His efforts earned him NAC Player of the Week honors.
The sophomore from East Thetford, Vt. made three saves in a 7-2 win over the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Tuesday, Sept. 21 before putting together back-to-back 1-0 shutouts in conference victories on Husson (four saves) and Maine Maritime (four saves) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Rounding out the list of Lyndon honorees is Kayla Flynn of the Lyndon women's tennis program, who grabbed NAC Rookie of the Week honors for a third consecutive week.
A freshman from Johnston, R.I., Flynn surged to 5-1 in both singles and doubles play with a pair of victories against Johnson and Becker. In Thursday's match with the Badgers, Flynn defeated Kim Blakeman 6-0, 6-1 before teaming with Maria Parr to record an 8-2 win over Rebecca Quarantiello and Katelyn Breault in second doubles.
On Sunday, Flynn moved up to No. 2 singles and recorded a hard-fought 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 victory over the Hawks' Laura Mimms. She and Parr closed out the day with an 8-6 win in second doubles over Mimms and Megan Nessen.
