BIDDEFORD, Maine. – The Hornet men's team kicked off another season with a solid third place finish behind perennial New England power the University of Southern Maine and host UNE. The Hornets compiled a team score of 56 points, ten points behind UNE (46), while USM won the meet with a team score of 33.
Leading the way for the Hornets, as he did throughout the 2009 and 2010 seasons, was junior standout Josh Grant (Nashua, N.H.). He covered the hilly eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:16 for first place overall. Grant was followed by sophomore Kenedi Hall (Hartland, Vt.) for ninth place in a time of 29:46.
Following Hall for the Hornets in 12th place was senior Wildens Fils (Stamford, Conn.) in a time of 29:56. Freshman Tyler Scheibenplug (Wolcott, Conn.) was fourth for the Hornets in 30:51. Senior Mike Famer (Colchester, Vt.) rounded out the top five for the Hornets with a time of 32:05.
