Hornet men place second at Mayflower Kickoff

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Lyndon men's cross country team had a strong showing as they ran to a second place team finish behind Babson College at the 2012 Mayflower Kickoff Meet.

The Hornets team score of 37 points was anchored by the efforts of senior Josh Grant (Nashua, N.H.), second overall with a time of 16:10 over the five-kilometer course. Sophomore Tyler Scheibenpflug (Wolcott, Conn.) in third overall (16:26), junior Kyle Powers (Waterford, Vt.) in fifth overall (16:47), and junior Kenedi Hall (Hartland, Vt.) in seventh overall (16:51).

In the first meet of the season the Hornets easily out distanced their NAC rivals with the closest conference team, Colby-Sawyer, in third place with a team score of 110.

"The men raced fairly well, but know a race this early is really an opportunity to measure their fitness," said Head Coach Chris Ummer. "The men's top 5-6 runners have much room for improvement and this will help in that assessment and process. The top four (Grant, Scheibenplug, Powers, and Hall) looked strong and they'll only improve at the eight-kilometer distance."
