Hornet Men Take First at University of New England Invite, Lady Hornets 10th

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Hornet men's team bounced back after last weekend's disappointing seconds place finish to claim their first UNE Invitational title.

In doing so they knocked off regional power-house University of Southern Maine (12th at the 2011 NCAA Championship). The Hornets compiled a team score of 27 points, 19 points better than USM (46), and 33 points better than host UNE (60).

Leading the way for the Hornets, for his second UNE Invite individual title was senior standout Josh Grant (Nashua, N.H.). Grant covered the hilly eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:26 for first place overall. Grant was followed by junior Kyle Powers (Waterford, Vt.) in 28:46 for second place overall and then sophomore Tyler Scheibenpflug (Wolcott, Conn.) in 28:48 for third overall.

Completing the top five spots for the Hornets were junior Kenedi Hall (Hartland, Vt.) in fifth place in a time of 29:22 and senior Jimmy Bielli (Gloversville, N.Y.) in 17th place in 30:50.

The Lady Hornets ran to 10th place with senior Cassie Tricou (New Haven, Vt.) pacing the team for 49th place overall in a time of 23:57 over the hilly 5K course. Sophomore Ainsley Nettell (Jaffrey, N.H.) followed Tricou for sixty-ninth place in a time of 24:59.
