LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Maine Maritime Academy powered its way to a doubleheader sweep of Lyndon Sunday to raise its overall record to 12-12 and its mark in the North Atlantic Conference to 5-7. Maritime won the opener by a score of 7-0 and rallied late to win the nightcap 8-0.

In Game 1, the Mariners plated four runs in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Leah Jackson and a three-run home run off the bat of Erica Taylor. Autumn Jones had a two-run single in the third and an RBI single in the fifth to close out the scoring in the contest.

Jackson, Taylor and Jones had two hits each in the game and Abby Yeo went the distance to get the win. She allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out six and walking none.

Taylor Young (Lowell, Mass.) had two hits for the Hornets and Meghan Gadapee (Littlketon, N.H.) was tagged with the loss. She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits while fanning two and walking one.

In Game 2, the score was deadlocked at 0-0 until the top of the sixth inning when the Mariners broke through for three runs. Two Lyndon errors added to the uprising that would give Maritime the lead for good.

One inning later, a two-run double by Taylor and a two-run single by Cindy Schultz would blow the game open and send the Mariners on to the sweep. Yeo went seven innings to get her second win of the day. She allowed no earned runs on four hits while striking out four and walking one.
