Middlebury cruises past Lyndon

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury will enter conference play with a 9-1 mark after an 84-63 win over Lyndon in Pepin Gym. Seven players earned double-digits in the scoring column, as Middlebury shot .547 from the floor in the first half, while controlling the boards 51-29 in the contest.

Middlebury came out on fire from the floor, making nine of its first nine shots to hold a 19-6 advantage at the 15:58 mark. Lyndon chipped away, cutting the lead to six (35-29) on a hoop by Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) with 5:12 left to play, but the Panthers answered with a 12-1 run before a late three left Middlebury with a 49-35 halftime lead.
The Middlebury lead stood at 11 with 11:46 remaining, with the Panthers going on an 11-3 run to extend the lead to 73-54. Scarlett Kirk scored seven of the 11 points during the run that ended at the 8:12 mark. The lead grew to as many as 23 in the second half, with Lyndon closing the gap to 21 for an 84-63 final.
Stephany Surrette led Middlebury with 15 points and 10 boards on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. Maddie Moreau and Brittany Perfetti each scored 13, while Tracy Borsinger added 12 points and nine rebounds. Lauren Sanchez record 10 points nine rebounds and six assists in the win, while Katie Pett added 10 points and seven boards.
Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) led Lyndon with 17, followed by White with 14 and Stephanie Barclay (Barre, Vt.) with 10.
