Three Lyndon student-athletes named to NAC weekly honor roll
LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Three Lyndon student-athletes have been honored by the North Atlantic Conference for their performances in the week ending Sunday, Jan. 23.
Donna Lawson, a sophomore forward on the Hornet women's basketball team, was named the NAC Player of the Week while teammate Ariel McConkey, a freshman guard, took home Rookie of the Week honors. Phil Warrick of the Lyndon men's basketball program rounds out the lists of honorees having been named the conference's Player of the Week.
Lawson, a resident of Irasburg, Vt., amassed 19 points and 13 rebounds, while handing out five assists and collecting six steals as Lyndon defeated Thomas and Farmington to move to 2-2 in NAC play.
She had 15 points, 17 rebounds, two assists and one steal in the Hornets' 64-56 victory over the Terriers on Friday, Jan. 21 before tossing in 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 73-66 win over the Beavers the following afternoon.
McConkey, who hails from Fryeburg, Maine, scored 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and collected five steals in the week while playing a key role in the weekend sweep. She had 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the Hornets' 64-56 victory over Thomas before scoring in 12 points and collecting two rebounds and three steals in the win over Farmington.
Warrick, A native of Springfield, Mass., scored 64 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out six assists, blocked three shots and collected seven steals as the Lyndon men defeated Thomas and Farmington as well to move to 3-1 in NAC play.
He had 38 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block and four steals in the Hornets' 107-96 victory over the Terriers before pouring in 26 points to go along with two rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals in the key win over the Beavers.
