LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon avenged a 29-point loss to Maine Maritime Academy two weeks ago by stunning the first-place Mariners 81-68 at Stannard Gymnasium.
The Hornets, who led 40-33 at halftime, built a 20-point cushion early in the second half only to see the Mariners whittle the deficit down to eight points with less than five minutes to play. Lyndon managed to withstand Maritime's pressure and convert several key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds; and Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) added 18 points – including an 11-for12 performance from the free throw line- and four assists. Ariel McConkey (Freyburg, Maine) had 15 points off the bench for the Hornets.
Samantha Goda had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for the Mariners, and teammate Maggie Smith chipped in 16 points.
