Hornets pull away from Johnson
JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon picked up a North Atlantic Conference road win at Johnson State College behind 21 points and 19 rebounds from Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.). The Badgers kept the game close for the first 10 minutes behind balanced scoring, rebounding and a solid defensive effort; and managed to enter the locker room at halftime trailing 28-21.
The teams would exchange baskets for much for the first nine minutes of the second half but following a Molly Grover lay-up that made the score 45-37 with 10:24 to play, Lyndon would respond by ripping off 10 straight points capped by a Maisie Sanchez (Waterbury, Conn.) three-pointer from the right wing. The Hornets would cruise to the victory from there behind a 17-for-26 free throw shooting effort.
Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Hornets while Ariel McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) chipped in 10 points. Johnson was led by Andrea Deuell who scored 14 points, collected eight boards and had five steals while Grover hit a pair of 3-point field goals en route to 12 points on the night.
