FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington outscored Lyndon 27-9 over the final nine minutes of the contest as the Beavers claimed a 69-48 victory in Nort Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Ashley Busque tallied 16 points and handed out six assists for the Beavers, while Kenni Norton chipped in 15 points and Jillian Ross notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Emma Morrison and Paige Saunders enjoyed strong games for Farmington with Morrison distributing seven assists with zero turnovers and Saunders blocked six shots.
The Beavers limited Lyndon to 20.9 percent (14-67) from the field, while the hosts made 45 percent (27-60) of their attempts.
Ariel McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) led the Hornets with 15 points off the bench, while Shauna Buck (Newport Center, Vt.) scored 13 points and Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, but Lyndon's leading scorer was limited to five points.
The Hornets held a 27-25 edge at halftime and Stephanie Barclay (Barre, Vt.) buried a three to start the second half for a 30-25 lead 11 secobnds into the frame. With two baskets each by Busque and Saunders, the Beavers scored the game's next eight points for a 33-30 lead with 16:09 left in the second half.
Farmington led by as many as seven points, but the Hornets hung around with a McConkey trey with 9:48 to play making it 42-39, but nine points from Norton powered a 13-2 stretch by the Beavers to bolt into a 55-41 advantage with 5:37 remaining in the game. Lyndon was held without a field goal for nearly six minutes.
The Beavers used a 10-2 run over the final 1:57 to cap off the 69-48 win.
