Hornet surge falls short
LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon cut a 20-point halftime deficit down to nine midway through the second half, but could not sustain it momentum long enough to avoid a 57-46 loss to Maine Maritime Academy.
The Mariners built a 38-18 at intermission only to see Lyndon slash the deficit to 49-40 with 9:40 left to play. But Maritime managed to right the ship and knock down several key baskets in the time remaining to seal the win.
Sam Goda led the way with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two assists while teammate Courtney Dufour contributed 19 points and three assists. Maggie Smith tossed in 15 points for the Mariners (7-6, 4-3) and Leah Jackson had a team-high 13 rebounds.
Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) had 18 poinst for the Hornets (4-9, 3-5) and Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) collected 10 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Chelsea Watson (Eliot, Maine) had 14 points in the loss including 12 from beyond the three-point arc.
