Chargers Gallop Past Hornets in Second Half

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's basketball team dropped an 80-55 loss to Colby-Sawyer College in North Atlantic Conference play Tuesday night in Stannard Gymnasium.

After a few exchanged baskets and lead changes, the Hornets pulled ahead 9-5 off of a trey from Gabby Foy (Wilton, Maine) and a layup from Faith Richard (Acushnet, Mass.).  The teams scored back and forth, holding the tally at 15-11 as neither team scored for three and a half minutes until Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) hit a jumper for the Chargers.  At the end of the first, the Hornets led 22-20.

The Chargers' Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.) scored in the paint to tie the game at the beginning of the second.  Soon after, Foy hit a jumper, but Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) tied it up 24-24 and the Chargers didn't look back as they scored nine straight.  Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.) and Alissa Mitchell (Milton, N.H.) brought the score to 33-28, but the Chargers then extended the lead to 39-28 at the 1:01 mark.  Foy would finish out the second stanza with five straight points bringing the Hornets within six at a score of 39-33.

The Chargers' Ally Mignault (Billerica, Mass.) and the Hornets' Hodge swapped layups to put the score at 41-35 at 9:09.  The Chargers drained seven until Hodge hit two from the charity stripe. After a Mitchell layup, the Hornets brought it within nine, but the Chargers hopped on their horses and extended the lead to 62-43 to close out the third.

The Chargers found their largest lead at the 5:04 mark in the fourth quarter with the score 78-47.  The Hornets held them to one more basket as they finished out with eight more, losing the game 80-55.

The Hornets were led by Hodge's sixteen points, nine rebounds, and three blocks with Foy pitching in fourteen points, five rebounds, and two assists.

The Chargers had four of their starters in double-digits with Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) and Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) paving the way with fourteen points each.
