Waterville, ME - The Lyndon State College women's basketball team jumped out to a 24-13 first quarter lead and made it stand up as they defeated Thomas College 75-61 on Friday night. With the win the Hornets improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in NAC play. Thomas falls to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the NAC.
The Hornets stormed out to an early 13-3 lead four minutes into the contest, and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way. Lyndon led by 11 at the quarter, 13 at the half, and 16 after three, before coming away with the 14 point win.
Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) had a big game to lead the Hornets. The senior center played 38 minutes and collected 19 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists. Gabrielle Foy (Wilton, ME) added 18 points and four assists while Alissa Mitchell (Milton, NH) chipped in 11 points and dished out a team high five assists. Freshman Alisha Celley (Cabot, VT) also reached double figures with 10 points.
Jordan Turner (Casco, ME) and Molly Carroll (Southwest Harbor, ME) each had 11 points and six rebounds for the Terriers. Turner also handed out a game high seven assists.
The Hornets continue their Maine road swing with a 1:00 pm tip-off at the University of Maine at Farmington tomorrow. Thomas hosts Johnson State College.
