LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Michelle Wilcox (Sheldon, Vt.) scored two goals and had one assist as the Lyndon women's soccer team recorded a 7-0 victory over Morrisville State.
Wilcox score the game-winner 11:36 into the first half off an assist from Ceili Grinnell (Easton, Conn.). Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) made it 2-0 less than one minute later when she took a Grinnell pass and deposited a shot into the back of the Mustangs' net.
After a thunderstorm delayed play for more than an hour, Megan Phelps (Lyndonville, Vt.) headed home the first goal of her Lyndon career off a Samantha Bergeron (Milton, Vt.) corner kick to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Sarah Cornell (Lyndonville, Vt.) made it 4-0 at the 54:03 mark, with assists going to Strese and Wilcox, before Wilcox tallied her second goal following up a chip on net by Jasmin Amaral (Westport, Mass.).
Strese and Hilary Bonasera (Chelsea, Vt.) closed out the scoring late in the contest, with assists going to Cornell and Morgan Sanderson (Fairfax, Vt.), respectively.
Adele Zeh (Nunda, N.Y.) made four saves for Lyndon to earn the shutout while Jennifer Zidzik and Erin Bergold combined to stop five shots for Morrisville (0-1).
