LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon Institute grad Sarah Cornell (Lyndonville, Vt.) tallied two goals as Lyndon defeated SUNY Cobleskill 4-1 to run their early-season record to 2-0.
Cornell opened the scoring at the 10:28 mark when she punched home a cross off the foot of Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.). The Hornets upped their advantage to 2-0 13 minutes later when Morgan Sanderson (Fairfax, Vt.) found the back of the net off an assist from Samantha Bergeron (Milton, Vt.).
In the waning moments of the first half, the Fighting Tigers snuck back into the contest when Emily Lesperance beat Hornet Goalie Adele Zeh (Nunda, N.Y.) to the far side of the net with two seconds remaining in the period.
Lyndon managed to regroup in the second half and take a 3-1 lead at 51:17 as Strese scored her third goal of the season. The tally was unassisted. Cornell ended the scoring in the contest at 63:52 with a goal off a feed from Bergeron.
Adele Zeh, who was relieved by Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, Vt.) late in the second half, was credited with the victory while Cobleskill starter Jody Pendergast was saddled with the loss.
