LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Lyndon women's soccer team fell to 2-7 overall, and 0-3 in the North Atlantic Conference, with a 2-1 loss to Maine Maritime Academy.
The Mariners jumped out to a 1-0 lead 22:41 into the first half when Sarah Brochu picked up a loose ball and drilled home a shot from 10 meters out. The goal was unassisted.
Early in the second half, Lyndon's Ritza Arias (Canaan, Vt.) ran down a pass on the right wing and sent a cross toward the mouth of the Mariner's goal. Sarah Cornell (Lyndonville, Vt.) ran onto the cross from the far side of the net and headed home the game-tying goal. At 69:15, Maritime's Andi Flannery would decide the game's outcome by drilling home a corner kick by Dani Holt.
Mariner goalkeeper Taylor O'Malley made eight saves to earn the win while Hornet goalie Dannika Dobrowski (Plainfield, Vt.) had one save in the contest. Lyndon (2-7, 0-3) outshot Maine Maritime 12-4 in the game and the Mariners (3-6, 1-2) held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
