MCLA blanks Lyndon
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Behind a pair of goals and an assist from Lindsay Borbolla, the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers defeated Lyndon 4-0 at Shewcraft Field. The Trailblazers improve to 4-6 on the season while the Hornets fall to 2-9.
The Trailblazers got off to a good start on the rainy afternoon with the opportunity to get multiple corner kicks in the early minutes. However, the Hornets held off the attack with strong defense and several stops by goalie Samantha Smith (North Haverhill, N.H.), who finished the match with 12 saves.
MCLA took 18 shots in the first half but didn't capitalize until Jennifer Ferrari headed one home in the 26th minute off Borbolla's free kick.
In the second period, MCLA capitalized on their opportunities when Rebecca Pike put one in the back of the net after she broke away from the Lyndon defense in the 54th minute. Borbolla would tack on two more goals before the match was over, her second goal came after she settled a pass from Kasie Harrington and found the back of the net to make the score 4-0.
The Trailblazers played a tough defensive game allowing three shots, while Danielle Heinsohn made one save on the day.
