LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Emily Strese scored two goals to propel Lyndon to a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain College. With the win, the Hornets took one step closer to securing a berth in the upcoming NAC playoffs.
Lyndon dominated play throughout, hitting the crossbar and goalposts twice in the first half without scoring. Heading into intermission, the Hornets held an 18-0 advantage in shots.
The second half was a repeat of the first, with Green Mountain creating two solid scoring opportunities, but with no results. As regulation time began to wind down, Strese broke the scoreless tie with a blast from the right wing at 82:17. The tally was unassisted.
Less than three minutes later, Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) struck again, settling a pass from Hilary Bonasera (Chelsea, Vt.) and drilling home a shot into the far left side of the net with 5:07 remaining. Strese got off 14 shots in the game with six finding their way on goal.
Hornet goalkeeper Samantha Smith (North Haverhill, N.H.) made one save to record her first shutout of the season while Eagles' goalie Emma Lord turned aside nine shots in the loss.
Lyndon (3-11-1, 1-6-1) outshot Green Mountain (0-14, 0-8) 32-3 in the contest and had seven corner kicks to the Eagles' one.
