PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Lyndon women's tennis team opened its 2011 season on a down note, droppding a 9-0 non-conference decision to Plattsburgh State at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse.
In No. 1 singles, the Cardinals' Rachel Hodnett defeated Kelsey Johnson (White River, Junction, Vt.) 6-0, 6-0 before teammate Samantha Engebrecht earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) in second singles. In third singles, Plattsburgh's Jessica Paquette beat Margaret Harrington (Pembroke, Mass.) 6-1, 6-0 and Steph Omlin won the fourth singles matchup by besting Lyndon's Kaitlyn Cunningham (Manteca, Calif.) 6-3, 6-1.
Jackie Bogdan (6-0, 6-1) and Tedi Politano (6-1, 6-0) rounded out the shutout in singles play with a wins over Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) and Erin Donnelly (Franklin, Maine), respectively.
In doubles action, Hodnett and Paquette teamed up for an 8-1 win in first doubles over Flynn and Johnson. The tandem of Caitlin Belladone and Kristen Casse followed with an 8-0 win over Harrington and Cunningham before Amy Rich and Samantha Fasciano closed out doubles play with an 8-1 victory over George and Donnelly.
