Lyndon earns first match victory of season

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Lyndon women's tennis team earned its first match victory of the season by topping Thomas 8-1 at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.

Lyndon jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Hornet team of Kelsey Johnson (White River Jct., Vt.) and Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) beat Jessica Bowen and Dalia Williams 8-5 in No. 1 doubles while the Lyndon tandem of Margaret Harrington (Pembroke, Mass.) and Kaitlin Cunningham (Manteca, Calif.) recorded an 8-1 over the Terriers' Emily Howard and Sarah Marckoon in second doubles.

Erin Donnelly (Franklin, Maine) and Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Kristen McLean and Kayla Giroux.

In singles action, Bowen bested Johnson 6-0, 6-0 in first singles before Flynn topped Williams by an identical score of 6-0, 6-0. Harrington (6-0, 6-3) and Cunningham (6-1, 6-1) defeated Howard and Marckoon in No. 3 and 4 singles while Olivia Bernard (6-2, 6-1) and George (6-0, 6-2) grabbed wins in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
