LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Lyndon women's tennis team improved to 2-4 on the season overall with a 7-2 victory over The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference match at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
The Hornets swept all three doubles matches and won four of six in singles action.
Lyndon took a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches as the team of Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) and Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) recorded an 8-0 victory over Carrie Richards and Sarah Murphy. In second doubles, the Hornet tandem of Kaitlin Cunningham (Manteca, Calif.) and Olivia Bernard (Barton, Vt.) got by Laura Laureano and Jess Fratus by a score of 8-5.
Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) and Maggie Harrington (Pembroke, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-1 decision over Dary Burgos and Kassandra Hilton in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Flynn beat Richards 6-3, 6-3 and Johnson defeated Murphy 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Bernard upped the Lyndon advantage to 6-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Laureano in third flight singles before Hannah Marshman collected the first Trailblazer win of the day, a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Harrington at No. 4 singles.
George earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles over Jessica Guay and MCLA's Shelby Ferriere defeated Erin Donnelly (Franklin, Maine) in the sixth singles match.
