WATERVILLE, Maine — Lyndon dropped to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the North Atlantic Conference by losing two of three NAC matches over the weekend. The Hornets fell 9-0 to Colby-Sawyer at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center on Friday, before suffering an 8-1 setback at the hands of Castleton Saturday. Sunday afternoon, Lyndon bounced back to record a 7-2 road victory over Thomas.
In the matchup with the Chargers, Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) lost a tough 7-6, 4-6, 10-6 decision to Liz Lincoln in No. 1 singles while Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) fell 6-1, 1-6, 7-10 to Ari Marks in sixth flight singles. In doubles, the Hornets would fare no better, losing all three matches by identical 8-2 scores.
On Saturday, Flynn earned the lone Hornet victory of the day with a 7-6, 5-7, 10-5 win in second singles. Teaming with Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) in first flight singles, Flynn battled Michelle Podnecky and Kate Bucci hard before losing the match by a score of 8-5.
Lyndon rounded out its weekend by defeating the Terriers 7-2. Despite dropping the first and second doubles matches, Lyndon reeled off six straight wins in singles to take control of the match. Flynn beat Jessica Bowen 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 singles and Johnson followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dalia Williams in second singles.
Kaitlin Cunningham (Manteca, Calif.) kept the ball rolling in Lyndon's favor by topping Sarah Marckoon 6-1, 6-0 in the third flight and teammate Olivia Bernard (Barton, Vt.) took down Emily Howard 6-3, 6-0 in No. 4 singles.
George and Margaret Harrington (Pembroke, Mass.) beat Kristen McLean (6-0, 6-2) and Kayla Giroux (6-2, 6-0), respectively, to wrap up the singles sweep for Lyndon.
