JOHNSON, Vt. – The Lyndon women's tennis team got broke into the win column for the first time, defeating arch-rival Johnson State College 7-2 on the Badgers' home courts.
The Hornets started the day with wins in two doubles matches. Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) and Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) took an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles while the tandem of Maria Parr (Montpelier, Vt.) and Olivia Bernard (Westmore, Vt.) earned an 8-4 verdict at No. 2.
Flynn (6-0, 6-0) and Johnson (7-6 (7-5) 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) walked off the courst as singles winners, capturing their matches at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, and Parr 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) clinched the match for Lyndon with a win at third flight singles. Bernard secured a 6-0, 6-7 (7-9), 6-1 win at No. singles while Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) earned the final Hornet win of the day in fifth flight singles 6-1, 6-3.
