LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team improved it North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) record to a perfect 8-0 with a 7-2 victory over Lyndon Tuesday at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 12-2 overall, while the Hornets fall to 1-4 in the NEAC Eastern Division and 1-7 overall.
The Chargers began the day with two doubles victories as top seeds Claire Toffey and Liz Lincoln earned an 8-2 win over Lyndon's Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) and Maria Parr (Montpelier, Vt.). The No. 2 doubles team of Donna Gordon and Kathleen Rogers posted an 8-5 win over Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) and Olivia Bernard (Barton, Vt.).
Colby-Sawyer dominated throughout singles play as Lincoln and Toffey defeated Flynn (6-1, 6-0) and Johnson (6-1, 6-1) in the first and second flight. Gordon beat Bernard 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles while Ellen Graham dispatched Maynard 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 matchup.
Rogers posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory over George in fifth flight singles before Lyndon's Heather Gibson (Hudson, N.H.) earned a forfeit win in the sixth flight.
