Chargers oust Hornets

HANOVER, N.H. - The Lyndon women's tennis season came to an end with an abbreviated 5-0 loss to Colby-Sawyer in the semifinals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Eastern Division playoffs.

The Chargers began the day with three straight doubles victories as top seeds Claire Toffey and Liz Lincoln earned an 8-1 win over Lyndon's Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) and Kelsey Johnson (MWhite River Junction, Vt.). The No. 2 doubles team of Donna Gordon and Ashlyn Ramsay posted an 8-1 win over Alexandria Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.) and Olivia Bernard (Barton, Vt.).

In No. 3 double, the Colby-Sawyer tandem of Ellen Graham and Kathleen Rogers defeated Margaret George (Glover, Vt.) and Kelly Butler (Hubbardston, Mass.) 8-3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Chargers earned enough point in singles to call the match early as as Ramsay defeated Johnson 6-0, 6-1 and Charlotte Horton topped Bernard 6-0, 6-0 in the second and third flight, respectively. The remaining matches on the day went as unfinished.

Lyndon completes its 2012 season with an overall record of 4-9 and a mark of 4-6 in NEAC play.
