Hornets split at Lyndon tri-match

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team upped its record to 4-8 on the season with a pair of wins at the Lyndon Tri-match. The host Hornets broke even at the event, winning one match and losing another while Johnson (0-9) dropped both its match-ups on the day.

The Beavers opened their day with a 3-0 victory over Lyndon, winning the match by set scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-13.

Shannon Mitchell led the way with 13 kills while teammate Katie Allen chipped in 19 assists, 10 digs and four services aces. Christine Bailey (Lyndonville, Vt.) had four kills to lead the Hornets and Ally Ciaramitaro (Melrose, Mass.) added 11 digs, five assists and two aces.

Lyndon rebounded from the defeat with a hard-fought 3-2 win over rival Johnson State in the second match of the day. The Hornets managed to slip by the Beavers by sets scores of 18-25, 25-12, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-13.

Ciaramitaro had seven kills and 22 digs in the match while Jaclyn Brett (Weymouth, Mass.) collected seven assists. Erica Ponte (Westport, Mass.) had seven aces for the winners and Bailey had 19 digs. Kylie Van Etten 15 digs, seven kills, seven aces and six assists for Johnson and Jessica Pafumi had 19 digs and five kills.

In the nightcap, Farmington defeated Johnson 3-0 (25-16, 26-24 25-8).
