JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon picked up a 3-1 win (25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) over Johnson State in a scheduled non-conference match. Maegan Fried (Great Falls, Mon.) racked up 15 kills and 15 digs while Taylor Young (Lowell, Mass.) recorded 22 assists and 17 digs.
In their second match of the day, the Hornets fell 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 26-24) to the University of Maine at Machias. Young continued her strong play with nine assists and 17 digs in the match.
On Saturday, Lyndon emerged from a long afternoon at Green Mountain College as the only team to go 2-0 on the day. The Hornets opened the day defeating the Green Mountain College 3-1, by scores of 25-22, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-19. The Hornet beat Castleton, handing them a 3-1 defeat by set scores of 25-18, 10-25, 25-18, and 25-15.
The Hornets used a balanced attack to pick up the first of two wins on the day, as Young directed a potent barrage of attacks tallying 23 assists. Fried was the top threat for Lyndon, finishing with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Kayla Cormier (Manchester, N.H.) and Erica Ponte (Westport, Mass.) each chipped in with six kills.
In the day's finale against the Spartans, Lyndon got a big match from their three-headed attack and shook off some mental lapses in the middle two sets to pick up their second victory of the day.
Morgan Diltz (Moultonboro, N.H.) finished with eight kills, four aces and 15 digs, getting plenty of help from Fried who tallied seven kills, four aces and 17 digs. Young added 14 assists, four aces and three kills.
