Young, Harrington earn NAC weekly honors

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Two Lyndon freshmen were recently named Rookie of the Week in the North Atlantic Conference. Taylor Young of the Hornet women's volleyball program received the honor on Monday, Oct. 10 and Maggie Harrington of the Lyndon women's tennis team repeated the feat on Monday, Oct. 3.

Young, an Electronic Journalism Arts major from Lowell, Mass., turned in an outstanding performance the week of Oct. 3-9 as Lyndon won three of four matches. In the Hornets' 3-1 win over Green Mountain on Saturday, Oct. 8 she collected 14 assists, four aces and three kills as the Hornets avenged a 3-2 early-season loss to the Eagles. In the second match of the day, Young had 23 assists in a 3-1 win over Castleton.

On Sunday, Oct. 9 she had 22 assists to go along with 17 digs in Lyndon's 3-1 victory over Johnson State. Young closed out her weekend with nine assists and 17 digs in a tough 3-0 loss to the University of Maine at Machias.

Harrington, a Graphic Design major who resides in Pembroke, Mass., went undefeated the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2, winning two matches each in both singles and doubles. On Wednesday, Sept. 28, she defeated MCLA's Hannah Marshman 6-2, 6-2 in fourth flight singles before teaming with Margaret George to record a 8-1 win over Dary Burgos and Kassandra Hilton in No. 3 doubles.

On Friday, Sept. 30, Harrington beat Johnson's Kate Murphy 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles and teamed with George once again to earn an 8-4 win over Alyssa Greene and Clarisse Talley in third doubles.
